Causes of Gum Disease.
High levels of blood sugar can affect the small blood vessels of the gums, reducing blood flow to the tissues of the gums. This contributes to gum disease and stop its natural healing.
Due to the poor functioning of white blood cells, people with diabetes have difficulties in countering infections mouth.
Diabetes can lead a person to a condition known as' dry mouth, 'which is a decrease in saliva. This can lead to a diabetic oral infections and increased tooth decay.
A high level of sugar in the saliva may attract destructive bacteria.
