Gingivitis can start off with a little discomfort In the gums. During the early stage of gum disease, the presence of red, bleeding and swollen gums are considered to be its warning signs and symptoms. Gingivitis is commonly known as gum disease and when left not treated can lead to the development of periodontitis that can eventually result to tooth loss. At this stage of gum disease, no permanent damage has been done to teeth and gums, giving you the chance to be able to reclaim good oral health. By this time, your dentist will tell you that you have a build up of bacteria that are concealed in plaque and tartar of your teeth. You will then notice that your gums are red and swollen because the bacteria found in plaque and tartar produces toxins that irritates the gums. The harmful bacteria is not only harmful to teeth and gums but to the rest of the body as well.
